Referral links — mention your affiliate links
Referral links are your own tracking or affiliate URLs — a partner product, an affiliate deal, your own tool — that Structura mentions inside the posts it writes, but only where they genuinely fit. This page explains what to give Structura and how it decides when to use a link.
What a referral link is
Unlike an authority link — a reputable source Structura cites to back up a claim — a referral link is a URL you want promoted: an affiliate link with a tracking code, a partner’s signup page, your own product. Structura treats it differently:
- It uses the exact URL you provide, untouched — your
?ref=and tracking parameters are preserved so you still get credit. - It adds at most one referral link per post, and only to posts whose topic actually matches the link. An affiliate link dropped into an unrelated post reads as spam and hurts your ranking, so Structura won’t do it.
Where you set them
You can add referral links in two places:
- Site level — on your Site profile (the Competitors tab in the customer portal, or the Competitors page in wp-admin) and during onboarding. Links you add here seed every new campaign on the site, so you set your affiliate deals once.
- Campaign level — on the campaign editor, alongside the Referral links section. A new campaign inherits the site list, and you can then add, remove, or edit links for that campaign only — your site defaults stay untouched.
What to provide for each link
Each referral link has up to four fields:
- Label (required) — the product or brand name, e.g. “Acme Boards.” Structura uses this to write natural anchor text and to judge which posts the link fits.
- Destination URL (required) — the full link, including
https://and any tracking parameters. Paste it exactly as your affiliate program gave it to you; Structura keeps it verbatim. - Relevance keywords (optional) — the topics this link belongs to, e.g. “project management,” “kanban.” These decide which posts the link appears in. Leave them off and Structura falls back to matching on the label alone.
- Exact anchor text (optional) — click Exact anchor text to reveal this. Most programs don’t need it: by default Structura writes a natural, varied anchor for each post (repeating the same anchor everywhere is an SEO footprint). Set it only when your affiliate program requires a specific anchor — it’s then used verbatim wherever the link appears.
How Structura decides when to use a link
For each post, Structura looks at the topic and picks the single best-matching referral link — if any. A link is used only when its relevance keywords (or label) genuinely match what the post is about. If nothing fits, the post ships with no referral link at all. This keeps every mention relevant and every post readable.
Disclosure is your call — Structura won’t switch it on
Affiliate relationships usually need to be disclosed to readers (in the US, the FTC requires it). Structura never enables disclosure for you. If your referral links are affiliate links, turn on the affiliate disclosure setting for the campaign yourself and write the notice you want shown. The referral-links section links straight to that setting as a reminder.
Common issues
- My link never appears in posts. Check its Relevance keywords — if they don’t match what your campaign writes about, no post is a fit. Broaden the keywords, or add the topic your posts actually cover.
- The anchor text isn’t what I expected. By default Structura writes its own natural anchor. If your program needs an exact phrase, set Exact anchor text on the link.
- My tracking code got stripped. It shouldn’t — Structura stores and inserts the URL verbatim. If a link stops working, it’s more likely the destination returned an error and Structura removed a dead link; re-check the URL in a browser.
